Font of the Week

A nice pseudo-stamped font, Choice is a little bit on the grungy side, looking slightly erratic but useful even so and a nice addition to your font collection.  Download it from this link but do check out the other fonts on the first link as well - there are some we have featured in the past, and some that are new, all worth a look.

We Came Home For You by Scrapdolly

Image  This page uses one enlarged photo approximately 8" x 6" I know we all like to scrap multi photo pages of events but there are times when you want to say something specific and it demands a single photo.

The supplies are minimal and in the step by step I will also give tips and alternatives.

As ever, please take what you want from the class, taking as much or as little as works for you. It may work as a direct scraplift, maybe you just take the idea of 2 circles or maybe the colours appeal but not the design. Like all classes, it is up to you how you use them. However, I would love to see what you come up with, no matter how loosely connected to this page it is. If you can, upload it to the special Scrapdolly gallery and give me a nudge in a PM or on my blog so I can see what you have come up with.  hope you enjoy the class.

Birth of a Hero

Image

I really like the shape of the letters of Birth of a Hero by Last Soundtrack, especially the slanting A and V (neither of which appear in UKScrappers!)   It's pretty close to ITC Avant Garde Gothic Alternate (non-grungy) but given the price, I think I will have to live with the grunge.

UKS Blog Links 17/11/08

ImageKimmyS has done a tutorial for the cute, and super easy, paper strip balls on her blog.  These are very sweet and have loads of room to customize to in your own style. KimmyS' versions are lovely.   Personally, I think they would be adorable made into an Advent tree.  I am reminded of the "Easter Egg trees" I've seen before that begin with a spraypainted tree branch and are designed for hanging decorated plastic eggs.  Depending on your top decoration for the paper balls I would think you could slide one open to hide, and later reveal, a little chocolate.  They may not last too many years with rough handling, but perhaps first adhering the paper to a transparency would help? Would a thin coat of Mod Podge affect either the movement (sliding open and closed) or the arc of the strips?  Anyone done something like this?  If so I'd love to see it for a follow-up post at a later date!

Sponsor Art From the Heart has the cutest Advent Houses on their site.   Love them!

Lots of people are doing the Journal Your Christmas class - this blog post by {Emma} ties in nicely with the Library entry on using Fabric below.  The trees on the cover are just fab.

Following on from the Butterfly project, some UKSers are busy making lovely versions.  I saw a stunning one by Alibri at a crop last week, and this one by VoodooVixen on her blog, a nice 3D one by newedition in the post.  Also, I stumbled on this one in the gallery , by tinasue, which is on a card but the embossing and sanding Coredinations cardstock would translate well to the Butterfly project.

As usual, don't forget the Saturday Freebie from Dan99 - love the tree this week.
